Everyone has many layers and I am in no way an exception. I have a love for technology, my family, and my culture among many other things. I have a lot of things going through my mind, both good and bad. I am a Chinese-Cambodian born in America and thus, have lived a relatively interesting life compared to my friends. I have some traditions that others may not have and do not do traditions that others may do. The same could be said about beliefs.
Each artwork is positioned to describe me as a person. I introduce myself with the first three artworks, show some of my life with the next four, and last three to display the tradition I have most common with others. I positioned each artwork in this order because I want you, as the audience, to get to know a little bit of me personally, learn about some things that some may not know, and show that even though I have a different life, I still celebrate the same things most others would do.
With this in mind, the overall theme of the exhibition could be titled “Me.” Each and every part can be used to describe a little bit of who I am, creating an image of my personality.
The first three is meant to represent my personality. The watch and eyes for my love for technology, both hardware, and software. The nose represents the negativity since it is impossible to have only positivity without negativity. The mouth to represent how “black and white” (truthfully) I speak. And the suit to show I am respectful and could be professional. The second and third one is to represent my love for fantasy-related items and how I view them. Magic is usually described as a complex system, but it can be simplified. Fairies are known to hide, and so, I hid a few.
The next four shows some of the things I experience in my life. I am a Chinese-Cambodian and, thus, experience Chinese and Cambodian culture. I also practice martial arts with them. I practice the Korean version of Karate. In my martial art, there is Um/Yang, which is Yin/Yang (Chinese) but the Korean version. Koi is to represent my interest in other Asian cultures. Japan raises some really beautiful Koi, with its Butterfly Koi being my favorite.
The last three are to show that, even with all of the differences I have from my peers, I have a tradition that almost everyone in the world celebrates: Christmas! Christmas is one of my favorite holidays to celebrate with my family. The first Christmas artwork is to represent the three main things that signify Christmas: a candy cane, a bow, and an ornament. The next two are card designs. Both cards are simple and visually pleasing, created in two different styles.
