This exhibition focuses on the themes of People or Humans. Four of my artworks are portraits, three are landscapes, and two are objects that relate to me as a person. I experimented with a lot of different media such as charcoal, oil paints, photography, and prisma colors to show this theme. My first art piece “ Colorful lady” was a mixed media artwork. I used charcoal, prisma colors, Graphite, and ink. This piece uses different references from different parts of a person, that I later put together to form a completely new person. After trying out the different media for this piece, I decided that I wanted to continue to learn and practice using charcoal. This comes to my next piece “Alejandra”. “Alejandra” is a charcoal portrait I made using a photograph that I took of my sister. Using a picture made this piece more meaningful to me. While working on this piece, I learned new techniques on how to use the charcoal and how it works when blending. After finishing creating the portrait, I decided to add Lines on top of it to show more of a complex look, which added more depth with the crinkled up paper I used as a canvas. In connection to my next piece, lines are a main focus on this artwork. For my “Sophomore year” piece, I also decided to use a very meaningful picture that I took of my sister when we were sophomores. I was inspired by the artist Henrietta Harris, who made distorted portraits. I decided to do this to show that the colorful lines created show the emotions that my sister was feeling during that time.Next is my last portrait “red”. I used a reference image to create this piece. Using graphite I drew the person and added a solid color for the background. I used red watercolor paint  to make the drawing pop with the black graphite to create a dark atmosphere. This follows my next piece which is a watercolor painting. For this painting I created a beautiful landscape but the people are more focused on their phones without focusing and enjoying nature's beauty. My next artwork is a photograph. I tried to capture an image of a person in a beautiful landscape. I also tried to capture this with an oil painting of two people in the streets of Hong Kong. I wanted to show people in different and beautiful locations. My last two artworks are about objects that relate to people, or me. My “Christmas” peice is a prisma colored drawing of christmas objects. Most people celebrate, or just know the decorations that we use during the holidays, so I created a still life drawing. My last piece is painting everyday human objects. This is known as a Vanitas painting. The objects I painted are of objects that relate or connect with me. They are objects that represent me. I experimented with a lot of different media throughout my art pieces and I believe that the theme or thread of people/humans is really shown.
